Congratulations Andrew McClannon!

Congratulations go to Andrew McClannon on being awarded the 2012 PGCSA Turf Scholarship! This year the Piedmont GCSA awarded $1,000 to Andrew McClannon from Starmount Forest Country Club the 2011 Turf Scholarship. Andrew is currently in his final semester at Rutgers University as a turf student. He finished his first semester with a 3.6 GPA and completed his internship at Starmount Forest this past summer. We wish Andrew the best of luck with his future in the golf turf business.

2011 Scholarship Opportunities from the PGCSA

The Piedmont Golf Course Superintendents Association offers two types of scholarship opportunities. The first type of scholarship is for students who are studying turf related subjects for the purpose of seeking a career in the golf-turf industry. Also, we offer a scholarship for children of PGCSA members whose area of study may be any college affiliated discipline.

Brent Gentel from Starmount Forest Country Club will chair the scholarship committee along with Ryan Sudano, from Grandover Resort. Please encourage any family member or turf management student to submit the required information to be eligible for this scholarship. The deadline for the 2011 scholarships is June 1st 2011.

Requirements are as follows:

TURF SCHOLARSHIPS

• 150 word minimum, 200 word maximum essay that is double spaced and standard margins on turf related topic
• Full time turf student
• Academic transcript
• Employed at PGCSA member facility
• Previous recipients are eligible the following year
• Resume

FAMILY SCHOLARSHIPS

• 150 word minimum, 200 word maximum essay that is double spaced and standard margins on why they choose their field of study
• Academic transcript
• Family scholarship cannot be given to a recipient in concurrent years
• Parent must be a current active member of the PGCSA
• Resume

Earn GCSAA Service & Education Points

PGCSA members who register and attend a local chapter meeting earned .01 service points in conjunction with the GCSAA professional development initiative program. Similar to events held on the state level, each meeting will have a designated event code available in handout form that EACH MEMBER will need to post on-line at their member central section of www.gcsaa.org or submit via mail. Each meeting with at least one hour of education related to a single topic pre-approved by the national office will also qualify for education points. Pesticide credits will be offered for events pre-approved by the NC Department of Agriculture. The event code is available at the registration desk.
